This paper presents recent advances in infrared studies of glass thin films, it demonstrates advantages and limitations when infrared spectroscopy is applied to thin films, and highlights precautions to be taken when measured infrared spectra are to be interpreted in terms of the structure of glass films. Several examples of glass film spectra presented and discussed in this work show that a comparative study of measured and modelled infrared spectra of films allows for the identification of pure optical effects on the measured spectra. When this approach is applied, it becomes possible to attribute safely variations in the vibrational profiles of films to true structural changes effected by mode of film formation and/or experimental conditions.}, number={3}, journal={Physics and Chemistry of Glasses-european Journal of Glass Science and Technology Part B}, publisher={Society Glass Technology}, author={Kamitsos, Efstratios I. and Dussauze, M. and Varsamis, Christos-Platon E.}, year={2008}, month={Jun}, pages={118–126} }
