N2 - The ab initio, non-perturbative solution of the many-electron time-dependent SchrÃ¶dinger equation for the time-resolved description of electron excitations, correlations and rearrangements in atoms and molecules on femtosecond and attosecond scales, may be characterized as a new frontier of many-electron physics and of quantum chemistry. I outline elements of the theory and applications of the state-specific expansion approach to the solution of such time-dependent many-electron problems involving arbitrary electronic structures.
