Περίληψη:	The works of and references made to painters of Lesvos and the opposite coast of Asia Minor during the 17th and 18th centuries lead us to search out the routes of artistic contacts and influences on the religious painting ofthe period. Information about apprenticeships of painters, the existing wall paintings and portable icons connect North-eastern Aegean painting to Mt Athos and to the Cyclades, especially during the 18th century, which was a period of intense artistic activity. The reasons for these particular orientations are to be found in the religious and artistic prestige of major centres of Orthodox religious art, such as Mt Athos, on the one hand, and in the mobility of the North-eastern Aegean painters on the other, connected to the economic development of the area and to the aesthetic preferences that prevailed at the time.
