Περίληψη:	The study of antiquity is inextricably linked to Europe in 19th century. On the other hand, the close ideological relevance of the study of antiquity (classical philology, ancient history and archeology) in the Greek state is connected with its very existence. From the eve of the Revolution, the turn to antiquity began to acquire scientific characteristics thanks to the contact of the Greeks with Europe. After the founding of the state, the role of practicing the study of antiquity with a dominant historical dimension was taken over by the Faculty of Philosophy of Othoneion University. Archeology was a privileged branch due to the international interest in Greek antiquities. Studying in German universities played an important role throughout the 19th century. Finally, as multifaceted personalities, many of the philologists, historians and archeologists contributed to the formation of the institutions of the young Greek state, with the knowledge and experiences they had gained from Europe.
