Περίληψη:	The methodological principles underlying the study of the metal finds from the excavation of the pre-historic settlement at Akrotiri, Thera are outlined. The kind of finds and the information they provide about the everyday life of the inhabitants are discussed. The finds are treated as final products of their makers and as consumer goods of their owners, with particular emphasis on theίr exchange value in the network of cir-culation of commodities and ideas in the Aegean region. The article concludes with the presentation of an unpublished bronze vase as a type case. Α brief appendίx on the method of conserving bronzes in the excavation laboratory and a select bibliography are given
